I’ve always been somewhat of a perfectionist.
The voice in my head telling me to tweak a verse, even after I’ve left the studio. The deeply ingrained habit of needing a perfect swish before I leave the basketball court, blazing sun and 110 degree heat be damned.
Waking up at 3am with pangs of anxiety about the one phrase I could’ve tweaked in a client proposal.
They say there’s no such thing as perfection…
I disagree, it’s in every moment we blessed with
Perfection drives many of us to go harder, think more, and refine our skills.
But what if you are perfect, here and now?
Try that belief on. Say to yourself “I’m perfect, here and now”.
Do you have a chorus of angry mind voices who have a dozen reasons why that’s not true?
That happens to me sometimes. A lot actually.
So how do we reconcile our current existence with the ideals of perfection in our mind?
For me, it’s been to let go of my ideals of perfection. No matter how much rational sense the ideals make.
I’ve found that these ideals actually separate me from the perfection of the moment. From the perfection of divine connection.
Iteration, divine implementation…
Riding the wave that became my presence
Perfection doesn’t lie in my mental world. It can’t. It only exists through the surrender to the divine force of life. The force that enables us to breathe, regenerate cells, convert food into energy, process waste, and balance millions of microbes without thinking knows a lot more than our brain can comprehend.
This music video is a great example of surrendering to divine perfection. In my mind, I imagined shooting some promos for the song by myself.
Those mental images felt meh. Then I remembered meeting RJ, a photographer and videographer with an amazing eye and openness for collaboration that I met at Culture Hub.
I decided that I’d go to Culture Hub to shoot the promos and hope that he’d be there to help.
He was more than happy to assist, and we ended up going on a mini adventure that featured 3 full-length takes of me performing the song on video, kick-ass b-roll, and a delicious slice of Pizza from Ziggy’s. At the front, it was a normal pizza shop. A bit small. But then RJ showed me through a hall way and we found the GAME ROOM ⬇️
Perfection is surrender to things we aint expecting
Overall, this release has been… PERFECT. I’m blessed to have the community around me that allows for this beautiful spontaneous to emerge. Shout out to RJ for his willing co-creation and dope filming skills. Shout out to Ziggy’s Magic Pizza Shop for a magical place to film!

Full Lyrics
I gotta make this perfect
I gotta make something that’s worth it
can’t be at my ego’s mercy
Withstand the test of my purpose
When I drop this track timing perfect
Drop it for ya’ll, you deserve it
Perfection is not for purchase
It’s built through imperfection and working yeah
Iteration, divine implementation
Expressed through many nights at my work station
Some think it was easy but that’s not how I made it
Only found perfection once I saw my demons faces
They say there’s no such thing as perfection
I disagree it’s in every moment we blessed with
Inside the madness there is always a method
Riding the wave that became my presence
Perfection is surrender to things we aint expecting
Twists and turns don’t stop life is always messy
If we try to control it From our perspective
Understand there’s way more than your perspective
someone probably saw this track as perfection
And I only saw the flaws and the crevices
I release control that’s the lesson here
Perfection is here just don’t mess with it
I gotta make this perfect
I gotta make something that’s worth it
I can’t be at my ego’s mercy
Withstand the test of my purpose
Know you got it know you on the wayyy
And you get closer every dayyy
When something needs to come out just let it spray
Don’t let your mind get in the way
It’ll ruin what your doing blockages and confusion
Comes from not accepting the present solution
Here and now there’s no fear allowed
Loosen my grip on what I think I’m out
Time to bounce
Imma bounce
I be around
But never down
Is this allowed
Is this allowed
Imma make
The team proud
I gotta make this perfect
I gotta make something that’s worth it
I can’t be at my ego’s mercy
Withstand the test of my purpose
Love this! We are perfect in our imperfections and imperfect in our perfections, and that is divine. As a recovered perfectionist, I strive now for impeccability, as it aligns with my higher Self. 😘
